Eat in Greenpoint

Last week I headed up to Greenpoint, the neighborhood just north of my own, to photograph "What's Good Today" for Nona Brooklyn.  As I stepped into Eat I instantly fell for it's quiet charm and rustic atmosphere.  I figured the food had to follow suite. The menu is composed of local seasonal ingredients; each dish is unique and finished with a dash of homemade love.

Cassoulet at Bistro Petit

Finally a much overdue update! Shooting was a bit slow during the holidays but now is back in full swing. Yesterday I went out for Nona Brooklyn to shoot for the "What's Good Today" series that we publish. I had been peering into the windows of Bistro Petit for some time now but somehow had failed to step in and surrender myself to the deliciousness that waits inside. A tiny little restaurant with just a few counter stools and takeout, Bistro Petit has captured my heart and many evenings of mine to come. Chef Sung Park made us his cassoulet with duck leg, smoked bacon, kielbasa, pork shank, great northern bean and sliced kimchi. It was every bit as wonderful as it sounds and perfect for these winter months stretching before us.

Sweet Potato Pancakes and Fried Chicken at Diner

Diner in Williamsburg currently is serving some pretty delicious sweet potato pancakes and fried chicken with chili cilantro maple syrup. I was lucky enough to get to try the dish when I was there shooting for Nona Brooklyn last week.

Hanging out with Evan Strusinski and Hugue Dufour

The most recent "Field to Fork" story I shot for Nona Brooklyn took me back out with wild edible forager, Evan Strusinski. This time we found ourselves in the woods and along the shores of Camden, Maine. Back here in Brooklyn Evan's mushrooms were delivered to Hugue Dufour, chef and owner of M. Wells Dinette at MoMA PS1.

Chef Brian Leth at Hillside, Brooklyn, New York

On Monday I shot Chef Brian Leth at Hillside near the Navy Yard in Vinegar Hill, Brooklyn. Chef Leth is famous for putting Vinegar Hill House and the newly opened Hillside on the map. The portraits are the final piece of the Island Creek Oyster story soon to be published by Nona Brooklyn.
